KBL Round 19 (Regular Season): Suwon KT defeat Sono SG in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 19 in the KBL took place in Daegu. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Skygunners (8-15) to sixth ranked Sonicboom (11-12) 86-85 on Tuesday evening. It was a great evening for American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 8 rebounds. helped adding 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Suwon KT maintains sixth place with 11-12 record. Sono SG lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. Suwon KT are looking forward to face higher ranked Wonju DB (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sono SG will play against KCC Egis (#3) in Busan and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Busan. Third ranked host Egis (14-8) smashed their biggest opponent Anyang (15-8) 103-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anyang. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Joon-Young Choi accounted for 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) came up with 14 points and 7 assists for Anyang in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Egis have an impressive series of five victories in a row. KCC Egis maintains third place with 14-8 record behind leader LG Sakers. Anyang at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. KCC Egis will play against Sono SG (#8) in Daegu in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Anyang will play on the road against Daegu (#10) in Incheon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Mobis Phoebus managed to get a seventh victory on Monday night. This time they edged ninth-ranked Daegu in Incheon 76-73. Myeong-jin Seo fired 25 points (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Samjosef Belangel produced 25 points and 8 assists for lost side. Daegu's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Mobis Phoebus (7-15) moved-up to ninth place. Daegu lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with 16 games lost. Mobis Phoebus will meet at home league's second-placed Anyang in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Daegu will play against the league's second-placed Anyang (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.

In the last two games of round 19 LG Sakers won against Sono SG on the opponent's court 80-75. Suwon KT unfortunately lost to Seoul Knights in a home game 68-75.



Sono SG - LG Sakers 75-80

Very expected game in Daegu where 8th ranked Skygunners (8-15) were defeated by first ranked Sakers (15-6) 80-75 on Sunday. LG Sakers outrebounded Sono SG 43-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. LG Sakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) fired a triple-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Carl Tamayo chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) added 21 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Skygunners' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first place with 15-6 record. Sono SG lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. LG Sakers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sono SG will play against KCC Egis (#3) in Busan and hope to secure a win.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Knights' (13-10) road victory over 6th ranked Sonicboom (11-12) 75-68 on Sunday. American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) fired a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Youngjun An chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Knights' coach Hee-Chul Chun used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and Jun-Young Park added 16 points respectively for lost side. The victory was the third consecutive win for Knights. Seoul Knights maintains fifth place with 13-10 record. Loser Sonicboom keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. Seoul Knights' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Seoul Seoul Thunders.
